Diamond of the Baroque
Guided tour - half day
This modern and swinging metropole has 3 pearls on its crown : the art of Rubens, the international harbour and, last but
not least, the largest diamond trading in the world. The medieval part of the city lies along the broad and bright Schelde
river, Antwerp’s pride.
Meeting with your guide in Brussels (station or hotel) and transfert to Antwerp by bus.
During the tour we drive through the old and new harbours, in the Art Nouveau area and along the museums. We visit the Rubens’
house and spend some free time nearby to enjoy the local atmosphere of the Sunday market. Walking, we are able to admire the
Steen, fortress of Antigoon, the Giant who was the protagonist of the famous legend. Nearby are to be seen the splendid meat
hall and the market square with the numerous guild houses and the renaissance town hall. But the absolute jewel of Antwerp
is its Cathedral : breathtaking, enormous, but slender as a candle. Inside, the paintings of Antwerp’s most beloved
son Rubens testify of the glory of the church in the baroque time. Finally, the beauty and glitter of the diamonds will make
this visit unforgettable. Return to Brussels (station or hotel or city centre).
